Trudeau ties for 4th at Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic

CRESSON, Pa.--Senior Joseph Trudeau (Ann Arbor, Mich., Skyline) finished tied for fourth place at this weekend's Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic, helping lead the Westminster College men's golf program to a ninth-place finish. The 20-team, two-day event was hosted by Penn State Altoona and Mount Aloysius College. Friday's round was played at Sinking Valley Country Club while Saturday's round was held at the Summit Country Club.

Farmingdale State College won the team title with a 36-hole team score of 601, following up Friday's 304 with a 297 on Saturday. Heidelberg University and Mount Aloysius tied for second place with a 608. Westminster slid five spots on the team leaderboard Saturday, finishing with a two-day total of 624. The Titans were tied for third after Friday's rounds with a 307. They posted a 317 on Saturday. 

Penn College's Peyton Mussina was the medalist after carding a two-day total of 135. He followed Friday's four-under 68 with a five-under 67 on Saturday for a 36-hole score of 135. The University of Mount Union's Brian Myers was the runner-up with a 146 (73-73). Trudeau tied Swarthmore College's Max Ash for fourth place. Trudeau and Ash both finished with a 148. Trudeau shot 74's Friday and Saturday. 

Graduate student Kai Haseyama (Encinitas, Calif., San Dieguito Academy), playing as an individual, tied for sixth with a 149 (75-74). Senior Portland Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) tied for 34th with a 157 (75-82) while sophomore Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton) tied for 43rd with a 160 (79-81).  Senior Peter Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) tied for 47th with a 161 (81-80) and senior Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio, South Range) tied for 64th with a 166 (79-87).

Westminster will compete in The Gauntlet, presented by Premier College Tournaments, Sunday-Monday, Sept. 15-16. The two-day event is being played at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
