Westminster wins at Grove City Fall Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster College women's golf program won the 12-team Grove City College Fall Invitational Thursday afternoon, with the Titans' scoring five finishing in the top 10.

Thursday's 71-competitor event was hosted by the Grove City Country Club.

Westminster posted a team score of 326, edging the runner-up, the College of Wooster, by two strokes. PennWest Clarion finished in third place (351). Westminster's "B" team was sixth (371).

Wooster's Ally Stewart won the event with a one-over 73. Saint Vincent College's Lucy Brayton was second with a four-over 76. Sophomore Katie Rose Rankin (Sewickley, Pa., North Allegheny) finished third with a seven-over 79.

Junior Alyssa Rapp (Poland, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) and sophomore Mya Mrkonja (Monaca, Pa., Central Valley) finished in a three-way tie for fifth place after posting 82's while freshmen Kaitlyn Hoover (New Wilmington, Pa., Wilmington) and Ava Liburdi (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) ended in a three-way tie for eighth after carding 83's.

Junior Olivia Kana (North Huntingdon, Pa., Greensburg Central Catholic) paced Westminster's "B" team, tying for 11th place with an 84. Graduate student Gianna Effinite (West Middlesex, Pa., West Middlesex) tied for 21st (88) while sophomore Taylor Temple (Butler, Pa., Butler) finished tied for 30th (93). Freshman Haily Rusnak (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) tied for 54th (106) while junior Quinnlyn Reaver (West Middlesex, Pa., West Middlesex) tied for 70th (141).

Westminster is scheduled to compete at the John Carroll University Fall Invitational Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 5-6. The two-day event will be played at the Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills, Ohio.
