Westminster prevails against La Roche

Morrison nets first career goal

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's soccer program registered a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting La Roche University Wednesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Westminster improved to 1-2-2 this season. La Roche fell to 0-3. Wednesday's win was Westminster's seventh straight in the series. 

Senior forward Lucas Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa., Mount Pleasant) scored his first goal of the year in the 10th minute off of an assist from senior forward Dylan Weiss (South Park, Pa., South Park). It was his second career assist. Senior forward Connor Schmidt (Evans City, Pa., Seneca Valley) extended the Titans' lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute, scoring off of an assist from freshman forward Santiago Fernandez (Lake City, Fla., Freedom). The goal was Schmidt's second this season. It was Fernandez's first career point.

Leading 2-0, freshman forward Steven Morrison (Orlando, Fla., Jones) scored his first-career goal in the 75th minute off of a Schmidt assist. 

Sophomore Aaron Snyder (Hatboro, Pa., Upper Moreland) registered one save in his first career shutout. Maddox Anderson made four saves for La Roche. 

Westminster had a 19-3 advantage in shots and finished with a 7-1 edge in shots on goal. The Titans had five corners. The Redhawks did not attempt a corner kick. 

On Saturday, Westminster will travel to Tiffin, Ohio to take on Heidelberg University at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex. The match is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
