Titans thump Penn State Schuylkill

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--The Westminster College baseball team pounded out 22 hits in Monday's 20-2 win over Penn State Schuylkill at The Ripken Experience®.

Monday's game was played at Socastee High School. Westminster improved to 2-3 while Schuylkill fell to 3-3.

Freshman right-hander Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) shined in his first collegiate start, allowing two hits with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks in five shutout innings. Junior shortstop Braeden Campbell (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler) and fifth-year right fielder Carter Chinn (Grove City, Pa., Grove City) had three-hit days for the Titans. Campbell went 3-for-5 with a home run, a stolen base, three RBIs and four runs scored while Chinn finished 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Senior designated hitter Jake Dockum (Fairport, N.Y., Allendale Columbia) went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and a run scored while sophomore first baseman Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. His leadoff home run in the sixth was the first of his career.

Westminster benefited from eight extra-base hits and five hit batters. The 22 hits were the most since a 15-13, 11-inning home loss to Washington & Jefferson College on May 3, 2013 (also had 22 hits).

Two-run doubles by senior center fielder Matthew Randza (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) and Chinn, along with Dockum's two-run home run, keyed Westminster's five-run first inning.

Westminster will face Penn College Tuesday at the Polo Grounds in Myrtle Beach. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
