Titans fall at home to No. 3 Baldwin Wallace

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College baseball team suffered a 3-2 loss to third-ranked Baldwin Wallace University Wednesday afternoon. 

Baldwin Wallace improved to 13-3 this season. Westminster fell to 5-9. 

Matt Sabin improved to 2-1 on the mound this season for the Yellow Jackets. He allowed one hit and struck out five in 2.1 relief innings. Aidan Bennett got the start and allowed one run on two hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Jake Heatherington worked a a perfect ninth inning to seal the victory and earn the save, his third of the year. He struck out the first two batters of the inning. 

Freshman right-hander Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) fell to 1-1 with the loss, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Six pitchers completed at least one inning for the Titans. 

Senior center fielder Matthew Randza (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. His RBI triple in the second scored senior first baseman Jake Dockum (Fairport, N.Y., Allendale Columbia), who led off the inning with a single. Dockum went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Senior catcher Chase Tomko (Hermitage, Pa., West Middlesex) singled to lead off the eighth. He stole second base later in the inning. 

Mark Mohnickey's two-out, two-run double in the second staked the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 lead. Nathan Zinn singled and Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider was hit by a pitch before Mohnickey's two-base hit. 

Leading 2-1, Ritlinger-Nirider's RBI single in the sixth stretched Baldwin Wallace's lead to 3-1. The base hit scored Zinn, who doubled earlier in the inning. Westminster freshman left fielder Quinn Marquis' (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning scored Dockum, who led off with a double following a 13-pitch at-bat. 

Baldwin Wallace piled up 11 hits in Wednesday's win. Both teams left eight men on base. The Titans combined to strike out 14 Yellow Jackets. 

Westminster opens Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Saturday against Grove City College. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at R. Jack Behringer Field.
