Westminster suffers loss to Kalamazoo

ALLIANCE, Ohio--The Westminster College women's basketball program dropped a 67-49 decision to Kalamazoo College in Sunday's consolation game of the "Teammates for Life" Tipoff Sunday afternoon at the University of Mount Union.

Freshman Maddie Syka (Darlington, Pa., Lincoln Park) poured in 17 points for Westminster. Junior Gracie Schill (Rootstown, Ohio, Akron Hoban) added nine points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Graduate student Breannda Davis (Streetsboro, Ohio, Streetsboro) finished with five points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks while sophomore Grace Cano (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) had three points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Kalamazoo had three players finish in double figures. Lauren Vanderstelt registered a 20-point, 14-rebound double-double. She finished 10-of-19 from the floor.
 
Kalamazoo led 24-7 after one quarter and carried a 35-19 into halftime. 
 
Westminster opens its home schedule Wednesday against John Carroll University. Tipoff from Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
