Westminster cruises to 8-1 win at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis team earned an 8-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual match victory at Saint Vincent College Friday afternoon.

Westminster is 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the league. Saint Vincent fell to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the PAC. Westminster has won 15-straight dual matches against Saint Vincent, dating back to a 6-3 loss on Sept. 21, 2008 in New Wilmington. 

Sophomore Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) and junior Gia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) improved to 4-2 and 3-1 in the PAC with an 8-2 No. 1 doubles win. Junior Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) and senior Caroline Fox (Acton, Calif., Vasquez) scored an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles while freshman Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) and junior Taylor Dlugozima (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) pushed their season record to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the league after prevailing with an 8-7 (10-7) tiebreak win at No. 3 doubles.

Overlingas earned the first singles win Friday, posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5. She is now 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the PAC. Rossi won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 and Fox improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the league with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 4. Valone battled in a 3-6, 6-0, 10-8 victory at No. 3 before freshman Morgan Allen (Johnstown, Pa., Westmont Hilltop) claimed a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 win at No. 6. 

Westminster steps out of conference Saturday with a match against Penn State Altoona. Doubles play is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. in New Wilmington.
