Westminster scores 9-0 win over Penn State Altoona

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over visiting Penn State Altoona Saturday afternoon. 

Westminster pushed its record to 7-2 this season while Penn State Altoona fell to 5-3. 

Junior Gia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) and sophomore Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) improved to 5-2 this season with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Senior Caroline Fox (Acton, Calif., Vasquez) and junior Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. 

Francisco won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and Rossi claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Vallone won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to move to 6-2. this season. Fox rolled in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles to improve to 8-1. Freshman Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) scored a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles to move to 8-1. She has won seven-straight matches. 

Westminster hosts Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Geneva Monday at 4 p.m.
