Penn State DuBois defeats Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College baseball team suffered a 4-2 non-conference loss to visiting Penn State DuBois Sunday afternoon. 

Penn State DuBois improved to 17-12 overall. Westminster fell to 12-15. 

Sophomore center fielder Anthony Perry (Poland, Ohio | Poland Seminary) went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored. Junior left fielder Matthew Randza (Beaver Falls, Pa. | Blackhawk) went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a sacrifice fly. Junior shortstop Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, Pa. | Central Valley) went 2-for-5 with an RBI. 

Freshman Justin Brannagan (Gibsonia, Pa. | Deer Lakes) picked up a no decision in the first start of his career. He went 5.1 innings and allowed two runs (2 earned) on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Westminster deployed six pitchers Sunday. Senior Devin Higginbottham (Austintown, Ohio | Austintown Fitch) suffered the loss, allowing two runs (2 earned) on a hit in the seventh inning. 

Westminster tied the game at 1-1 in the third with Murgenovich's two-out RBI single. Randza gave the Titans a 2-1 lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly. The sacrifice scored Perry, who doubled before advancing to third on a wild pitch. 

Penn State DuBois scratched out a run to tie the game in the sixth before plating a pair to grab the lead in the seventh. 

Westminster returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Tuesday at Franciscan University. First pitch of the league doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
