Roman records 200th ground ball, 100th caused turnover in lopsided win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse team earned a 10-2 non-conference victory over Heidelberg University Wednesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster, winners of three straight and four of its last five, improved to 4-4. Heidelberg fell to 3-3 this season. 

Senior defender Mike Roman (Norristown, Pa. | Germantown Academy) had two assists, seven ground balls and seven caused turnovers to pace the Titans' defensive effort. He now has 204 ground balls and 100 caused turnovers in his 46-game Westminster career. 

Senior attack Nick Hubner (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Plum) led Westminster with four goals and an assist. He added a career-high seven ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va. | Douglas S. Freeman) finished with three goals, one assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior attack Ryan Greer (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) had two goals, a ground ball and four caused turnovers. Freshman attack Brady Page (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) had a goal and assist to go along with three ground balls and a caused turnover. 

Sophomore defender Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah | Wasatch) added six ground balls and six caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Brendan Siwik (Aldie, Va. | John Champe) had four saves for the Titans. 

Up 2-1 after one period the Titans outscored the Student Princes 4-0 in the second to lead 6-1 at the half. Hubner had three goals and an assist in the second. The squads exchanged goals in the third period before a pair of Jones goals and one by Greer closed the scoring in the fourth. 

Westminster outshot Heidelberg 70-13 and finished with a 38-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Titans finished 38-of-40 in clears and maintained a 49-19 edge in ground balls. 

Westminster opens Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Saturday against Franciscan University. The opening faceoff in Steubenville, Ohio is slated for 1 p.m.
