Titans edged at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse program dropped a 14-10 decision at SUNY Brockport Saturday afternoon. 

Brockport moved to 1-3 this season. Westminster fell to 1-4. 

Senior attack Ryan Greer (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) led Westminster with three goals and a pair of assists. 

Sophomore midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va. | Douglas S. Freeman) and senior midfielder Hamish Mathwin (Marion, Australia | Westminster School) each scored two goals while Jones added an assist. Senior midfielder Boyd Foster (Lincoln, R.I. | Lincoln) had a goal and three assists. Senior attack Nick Hubner (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Plum) finished with a goal and an assist. Freshman attack Brady Page (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) netted his first goal of the season. 

Senior defender Mike Roman (Norristown, Pa. | Germantown Academy) paced the Titans' defense with seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Greer had five ground balls. Junior faceoff Dino Mario D'Alesio II (Youngstown, Ohio | Cardinal Mooney) won 13-of-25 faceoffs and had three ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Brendan Siwik (Aldie, Va. | John Champe) finished with 12 saves. 

Nate Askin led Brockport with five points on four goals and an assist. Bobby Alexander won 11-of-23 faceoffs and had six ground balls. 

Askin scored a pair of early first period goals to help the Golden Eagles jump out to a 5-1 lead. The Titans registered three-straight scores to close out the period with Brockport leading 5-4. The Golden Eagles used a 5-1 scoring spurt in the second period to take a 10-5 lead into halftime. 

In the third Westminster scored three-straight goals to cut the deficit to two, 10-8. Greer scored twice while Page scored once.

Trailing 12-8 going into the fourth period, Jones trimmed Brockport's lead to three, 12-9, after scoring off of a Greer assist. After the Golden Eagles added a pair of scores, Jones closed out the scoring with under two minutes to play, converting another Greer assist. 

Westminster outshot Brockport 44-42, while the Golden Eagles finished with a 26-25 advantage in shots on goal. Westminster was 3-of-4 in extra-man opportunities. 

Westminster hosts Marietta College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15 at the UPMC Sports Complex.
