Titans roll against Marietta

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Six players scored for the Westminster College men's lacrosse team in Wednesday night's 21-8 victory over Marietta College at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Westminster improved to 2-4 with the win. Marietta fell to 1-3.

Senior attack Nick Hubner (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Plum) paced the Titans with six goals. It was his second six-goal effort of the season. Sophomore midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va. | Douglas S. Freeman) netted a career-high five goals to go along with one assist, seven ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. 

Senior attack Ryan Greer (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) finished with four goals and four assists. With those assists, Greer becomes the all time assist leader with 64, passing Ryan Shorts who had 59 (2016-2019). Freshman attack Brady Page (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) totaled three goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Boyd Foster (Lincoln, R.I. | Lincoln) had two goals and three assists while sophmore midfielder Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md. | Watkins Mill) finished with a goal and two assists.

Junior faceoff Dino Mario D'Alesio II (Youngstown, Ohio | Cardinal Mooney) went 16-of-31 at the faceoff X and had six ground balls. Senior defender Mike Roman (Norristown, Pa. | Germantown Academy) added six ground balls and a caused turnover. Sophomore long stick midfielder Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah | Wasatch) totaled four ground balls and a caused turnovers. 

Freshman goalkeeper Brendan Siwik (Aldie, Va. | John Champe) had 11 saves in the victory. 

Chase Franklin led Marietta with four goals. 

Hubner scored three first period goals, helping the Titans carry a 6-1 lead into the second period. Jones, Greer and Foster each scored goals in the second and Westminster led 9-3 at halftime. 

Jones had three third period scores and Greer added a pair to help the Titans lead 15-6 going into the fourth. 

Hubner and Page each scored twice in the fourth period. 

Westminster was 22-of-24 on clear attempts and finished with a 33-22 edge in ground balls. The Titans outshot the Pioneers 59-27 and held a 38-19 advantage in shots on goal. 

Westminster is back in action Saturday, March 18 at home against Marymount University. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
