Women dealt home loss by John Carroll

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's swimming and diving team opened its season with a 186-113 loss to John Carroll Friday night.

Junior Christina Loewe (Austin, Texas, Veritas Academy) won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.05 seconds. She was second in the 50 backstroke (30.35). Freshman Preslie Bodine (Poland, Ohio, Poland Seminary) won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 33.70 seconds and finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.08). Junior Sara MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, Pa., Carlynton) won the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.20. She was third in the 100 freestyle (58.85). 

Freshman Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa. , Elizabeth Forward) was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:50.64) and classmate Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa. , Butler) finished third (12:19.28). McClain also finished third in the 50 freestyle (27.15). 

Senior Lauren Tanis (Reading, Pa., Fleetwood) finished third in the 200 freestyle (2:12.50) and the 500 freestyle (6:01.74). Juniors Sara Swanson (Avondale, Ariz., Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies (OIAIS)) and Amber Krebs (Whitewater, Wis., Whitewater) finished 2-3 in the 100 IM. Swanson posted a time of 1:11.24 and Krebs had a time of 1:11.37.

Freshman Lyndie Peters (Williamsport, Pa., Loyalsock Township) won the 1-meter, 5-dive voluntary competition with 159.60 points and the 1-meter, 6-dive optionals with 217.50 points. 

The 200 medley relay opened the meet with a second-place finish (1:59.87). Relay members included Loewe, Bodine, Tanis and Macmurdo. The 200 freestyle relay was second (1:49.78). MacMurdo, McClain, Tanis and senior Kaylee Madey (Emsworth, Pa., Avonworth) were members of the relay. 


Westminster will host Penn State Behrend on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.
