Westminster women bounce W&J in PAC quarterfinals

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis team defeated Washington & Jefferson 5-0 Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament. 

Westminster, the No. 4 seed, improved to 10-5 while fifth-seeded W&J fell to 5-6. The Titans will travel to top-seeded Allegheny on Thursday for a semifinal matchup with the Gators at the Robertson Tennis Complex. Allegheny claimed a 6-3 win over Westminster on Oct. 6 in New Wilmington. Thursday's semifinal match is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m. 

In doubles, Caroline Fox (Acton, Calif., Vasquez) and Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) earned an 8-5 victory over Eden Ma and Lisha Chadda at No. 2 while Taylor Dlugozima (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) and Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) posted an 8-4 win at No. 3 over Jaelyn Kennedy and Emma HumphreyGia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) and Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) won 8-5 at No. 1 over 
Nidhi Pulicherla and Riley Moore to close out doubles play. 

The Dlugozima-Overlingas pairing is 10-1 this season. Fox and Valone moved to 8-4 while Francisco and Rossi improved to 9-4. 


Westminster needed just two points in singles play. Overlingas earned the first, defeating Chadda 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Fox clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Humphrey. The singles win pushed Overlingas' record to 14-1 this season. She has won 13-straight matches. Fox improved to 11-4.
