Westminster women fall at Allegheny in PAC semifinals

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis team suffered a 5-1 loss to Allegheny in the semifinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Robertson Tennis Complex.

Allegheny, last year's PAC champion and the top seed in this year's tournament, improved to 9-1. Westminster, the No. 4 seed, finished its fall season 10-6.

In doubles, junior Gia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) and sophomore Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) secured an 8-4 win at No. 1 over Sabrina Rodriguez and Allison Riley. The pair finished 9-4 this fall. Senior Caroline Fox (Acton, Calif., Vasquez) and junior Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) fell 8-4 to Jean-Arlette Legrand and Maria Lounder. Freshman Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) and junior Taylor Dlugozima (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) lost 8-4 to Emiliia Grydnieva and Rei Etsumi at No. 3. 

In singles, Noelle Kidd opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 over freshman sophomore Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech) before Lounder won 6-0, 6-3 over Fox at No. 4 to give Allegheny a 4-1 match lead. Rodriguez clinched the match with a 6-0, 7-6 (3) win at No. 3 over Valone. 

Allegheny will face No. 2 Grove City in the championship tournament's title match Saturday.
