GROVE CITY, Pa. – Sam Belitz's hat trick and a stingy defense enabled Grove City College men's soccer team to blank Westminster, 3-0, in a Wednesday night Presidents' Athletic Conference contest.
At GCC's Don Lyle Field, Belitz blasted in goals at the 27:18, 48.26 and 50:10 junctures – the latter pair on penalty kicks. His first goal was assisted by Matt Van Kirk.
According to Grove City College's web site, Belitz (36 goals) now ranks 5th in the program's all-time goal-scoring annals. He has accounted for 81 career points.
Grove City (3-0 PAC, 5-4 overall) out-shot Westminster (0-2-1, 5-4-0), 22-5, including 9-2 in shots on goal (8-1 in corner kicks). GCC goalkeeper Jesse Greyshock earned the win, while Westminster's Jad Jadallah (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield High) also played well.
It was the third consecutive whitewash win for Grove City, and the program's first shutout of Westminster since Oct. 25, 2014.
Westminster will welcome Chatham University for a PAC match at noon on Saturday.
