NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Adrian Jimenez's second goal of the match – scored in the 88th minute – enabled Westminster College men's soccer team to edge Chatham University, 3-2, in a Saturday matinee Presidents' Athletic Conference match.
At UPMC Sports Complex, Jimenez (Kennesaw, Ga./Allatoona High), a sophomore midfielder, scored off a pass from graduate student forward Tyler Caterino (Monessen, Pa./Monessen Hgh). The goal, at the 87:48 juncture, snapped a 2-all stalemate.
Westminster (1-2-1 PAC, 6-4-1 overall) assumed a 2-0 lead on goals from Jimenez and Caterino at the 3:31 and 50:22 marks. JImenez was set up by graduate student forward Marc Esqueda (San Bruno, Calif./Junipero Serra High), while sophomore forward Connor Schmidt (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) set up Caterino's team-leading 9th goal.
But the Cougars' comeback commenced at 70:54 on Leandro Nasso's penalty kick, then Nasso assisted Daniel Gitman's goal less than 3 full minutes later at 73:32 prior to Jimenez's heroics.
Coach Girish Thakar'sTitans tallied a 15-12 edge in shots, though Chatham claimed an 8-7 margin in shots on goal. The teams split 8 corner kicks.
Westminster senior goalkeeper Jad Jadallah (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield HIgh) made 6 saves in 90 minutes, while his Cougars' counterpart, Nathaniel Esch, made 4 saves.
Westminster, which snapped a 2-match losing skid, welcomes Franciscan University on Wednesday, Oct. 5 in a PAC match set for a 7:30 p.m. start.
