WASHINGTON, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Westminster baseball team lost, 10-2, at top-seeded Washington and Jefferson in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament Championship game Saturday afternoon.
"They mean everything," said head coach
Patrick Riley when asked about the seniors. "What they've gone through, whether it's in relation to missing a year, dealing with covid, and just bouncing back. This group was large and it wasn't always easy. They battled and worked through everything to help lead us to a conference championship opportunity. That's a testament to them and without them, we wouldn't be here today. Most of the credit goes to them and hopefully we can build off this and get back here next year."
Washington and Jefferson (34-8) was able to take the early lead (1-0) after a one-run double down the left-field line. In the bottom of the third, Westminster (24-19) cut the Presidents' lead to two (4-2) after senior
Brandon Cooper (Oakdale, PA / West Allegheny) batted-in two runs from his double to right field. However, the Presidents were able to extend and maintain their lead for the rest of the game. On the mound, senior
Logan Minch (Grove City, PA / Grove City Area) started and collected a strikeout.
The Titans were led by Cooper who went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs-batted-in, followed by senior
Matt Costello (New Castle, PA / Union Area) who finished the day 3-for-4.
Costello with sophomores
Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) and
Carter Chinn (Grove City, PA / Grove City) were named to the All-PAC Tournament Team.
Westminster concludes its season with an overall record of 24-19 and a conference record of 17-10. The Titans set a program-record for most conference wins in a season and made their first PAC Championship appearance since 2012.
