THIEL RESULTS
GREENVILLE, Pa. – First-year
Portland Canovali (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) led the Westminster men's golf team to its third-straight victory as he earned the first medalist honor of his young collegiate career at the Thiel Invitational on Saturday.
The Titans placed first out of six schools with a team score of 322. Canovali fired a personal-best 75.
Senior
John Popa (Salem, OH / South Range) earned a top-10 finish with an 81, tying for ninth. Rounding out the five-player team for Westminster were first-year
Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, OH / South Range) (15
th/82), first-year
Logan Marnik (Carnegie, PA / Chartiers Valley) (T16th/84), and first-year
Peter Canovali (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) (T20/85).
Westminster also had a team compete in day one of the two-day Garden State Collegiate Classic in Flanders, NJ. The Titans currently sit third out of 11 schools with a team score 300. Senior
Michael Bell (Canonsburg, PA / Peters Township) and junior
Sam Napper (Mt. Pleasant, PA / Mt. Pleasant) currently sit tied for third in a field of 59 with an even par, 72. Rounding out the Titan squad were junior
Jacob Stuckert (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) (77), senior
Jonny Stuckert (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) (79), and junior
Calen Cummins (Allison Park, PA / Hampton) (105).
Westminster will close out the Garden State Collegiate Classic tomorrow, then compete at Washington and Jefferson on Monday, April 11.
