Westminster men sixth at season-opening invitational

NEW CASTLE, Pa.--The Westminster men's golf team opened its season with a sixth-place team finish Monday at its home invitational. The 14-team, 89-player event was hosted by the Avalon Field Club at New Castle.

Pitt-Bradford won the team title with a 306. Pitt-Bradford's Chase Hartnett was the individual medalist with an even-par 72, finishing his round with six birdies. Westminster's 'A' team was sixth with a 327. The Titans' 'B' team tied Saint Vincent for seventh (328). 

Sophomore Brody Pirt (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) paced the 'A' team, finishing in a three-way tie for second place with a two-over 74. Freshman Julian Bolino (Warren, Ohio, John F. Kennedy) and sophomore Aydan Gross (Mount Pleasant, Pa., Mount Pleasant) tied for 27th (83), while sophomore Aiden Barker (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) tied for 55th (87). Senior Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton), Westminster's No. 1 player, withdrew from the tournament following an injury early in the round. 

Senior Jonathan Haddox (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park) led the 'B' team with a seven-over 79. Senior Nate Covey (Sarver, Pa., Freeport) tied for 20th with an 81, while freshman Tyler Pastor (Pittsburgh, Pa., Plum) tied for 27th (83). Sophomore Connor Ealy (Butler, Pa., Moniteau) tied for 39th (85) and freshman LJ McGonigal (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) tied for 45th (86). 

Westminster had five players compete as individuals: freshman Hayden Downs (Bridgeville, Pa., South Fayette) tied for 12th with a seven-over 79, while freshman Jaxon Rozanski (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) tied for 20th with an 81. Freshmen Andy Hermansen (Mansfield, Pa., North Penn Mansfield) and Owen Reddinger (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) tied for 45th (86) and junior Zach Livosky (Poland, Ohio, Poland Seminary) was 84th (98). 

Up next:
Westminster returns to action Wednesday and Thursday at Olivet's Lou Collins Memorial Tournament. The event will be played at the Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich.
