GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster baseball team lost, 5-4, on the road against Grove City in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Tuesday afternoon.
"We did a good job giving ourselves a chance to win late," said head coach Pat Riley. "We need to do better in some situations. We have to regroup and get ready for an important series this weekend."
Westminster (12-6, 7-2 PAC) was able to cut Grove City's (15-7, 6-3 PAC) lead by one (5-4) in the top of seventh after a three-run inning. The runs came from sophomore
Logan Murgenovich's (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) double to left field that brought in senior
Matt Costello (New Castle, PA / Union Area), followed by a two-run single from senior
Seth Schrader (Fredonia, NY / Fredonia). However, the Wolverines were able to maintain the lead for the rest of the game.
The Titans were led by Schrader, who went 2-for-4 with a team-high two runs-batted-in (tied game-best). Murgenovich collected a double and a run-batted-in on the day. Senior
Austin Webb (Wadsworth, OH / Wadsworth) went 1-for-4 with a run-batted-in. On the mound, first-year
Jake Vitale (New Castle, PA / Union) notched three strikeouts and only allowed five hits in the start as he pitched for 5.1 innings.
Westminster returns to the field Saturday, April 9 as it hosts Bethany in a PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
