Softball: Titans Sweep Wolverines, Extend Winning Streak to 14

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster softball team swept Grove City at home in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Titans won game one 7-2 and game two 8-0.

"It's been the small things," said head coach Jan Reddinger, when asked about the key to the winning streak. "The things that are coming together with picking each other up. If someone is not hitting, someone else is. The pitching has been solid, the defense has been solid. When those three areas come together, you're going to get some wins."

In game one, junior Mackenzie Latess (New Castle, PA / Laurel) notched a three-run homer to left center to give Westminster (23-2, 10-0 PAC) a 4-0 lead. The Titans remained in control for the rest of the game. Senior Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) registered her 11th win of the season with a pair of strikeouts in six innings of work.

Game two was highlighted by none other than Latess, who tripled in the first that brought home juniors Leah Pancake (North Lima, OH / Beaver Local), Brooke Atkins (New Castle, PA / Laurel), and Ashley Wire (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary). The Titans held the Wolverines at bay to secure the victory. Sophomore Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) recorded her 11th win this season with a game-high four strikeouts in the complete-game effort.

The Titans were led by Latess, who went a combined 5-for-6 with eight runs-batted-in along with a home run, her fourth of the season. Pancake finished the day 4-for-6 with a pair of runs-batted-in and three runs scored.

Westminster returns to the field Friday, April 22 as it hosts Thiel in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
