NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster men's lacrosse team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 13-4 win over Penn College at home Thursday.
Tied 2-2 at halftime, Westminster (7-3) went on a scoring spree with a 11-2 advantage in the second half over Penn (6-6).
"I think we felt a little sorry for ourselves coming off a loss yesterday, given our guys didn't want to lose in general," said head coach
Travis Brown. "It took them 30 minutes to kind of get that out of their system to come back with really good energy. Every time you have the ball on your stick, feel confident and work as hard as you can. You can tell in the first five minutes of the third quarter, we were really working hard when the ball was on our stick. It takes six guys on offense, working together, to get us out of a deficit and that's what we did in the second half."
Three Titans had a hat trick, led by junior
Ryan Greer (Cranberry Twp., PA / Seneca Valley) and senior
Joe Rosa (Newton, NJ / Kittatinny Regional) with four goals apiece (season-best for Rosa). Sophomore
Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, MD / Loyola Blakefield) also had a hat trick with a season-high three goals. Junior
Boyd Foster (Lincoln, RI / Lincoln) dished out a season- and game-high four assists.
First-year
Brody McGuinness (Heber City, UT / Wasatch) registered a game- and career-high three caused turnovers. Sophomore
Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) corralled a game-high nine ground balls, while winning 16 of 21 faceoffs.
Titan sophomore goalkeeper
Bradley Green (Landisville, PA / Hempfield) improved to 6-3 on the season, while collecting seven saves.
"I definitely couldn't have done it without the help from my defense," said Green. "They helped us out a lot. Every time the ball seemed to come down, we set it right back, which really helped us out in the second half."
The Titans will next face Thiel at home on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m.
