DUBOIS, Pa. – The Westminster baseball team lost, 16-5, on the road against Penn State DuBois in the season-opener in a non-conference game Friday night.

"It feels good to get the season underway," said head coach Pat Riley. "It wasn't the result we wanted, but we will turn the page and learn from it. It is always good to play a team of their caliber early in the year."

James Diamond's (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) single brought classmate
Seth Schrader (Fredonia, NY / Fredonia) and sophomore
Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) in to score, tying the game at two. In the final two innings, Westminster (0-1) was able to finish strong as first-year
Carter Chinn (Grove City, PA / Grove City) batted-in senior
Austin Webb (Wadsworth, OH / Wadsworth) on a sacrifice-fly and
Jake Dockum's (Fairport, NY / Allendale Columbia) fielder's choice brought Murgenovich across home plate.

Diamond led the Titans with a team-high two runs-batted-in along with six putouts. Murgenovich tallied team-bests with two hits and two runs. Schrader and Webb, both hit a double (tied a game-high). In relief innings, sophomore
Phillip Keller (Coraopolis, PA / Montour) and first-year
Adam Coppins (Lewiston, NY / Lewiston-Porter) each notched a pair of strikeouts.

Jake Vitale (New Castle, PA / Union) made his first career start on the mound and registered a game-high four strikeouts, three of which were looking, while only allowing four runs.

Westminster returns to action Monday, March 14 against Wells College to start it's Ripken Baseball Spring Training Experience trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C. First pitch is set for 9 a.m.
