MARIETTA, Ohio – The Westminster women's lacrosse team lost, 16-5, on the road in its season-opener against non-conference foe Marietta Saturday afternoon.
"It was awesome to open up this season," said head coach
Bethany Snider. "We played hard every second. I'm looking forward to utilizing this experience to get better. The team's positive attitude today will certainly propel us forward as we navigate this season."
Westminster (0-1) outscored Marietta (2-0) in the fourth quarter (2-1). The first fourth quarter goal came from sophomore
Samantha Reed (Zionsville, PA / Emmaus), her second of the game. Junior
Stephanie Cimini (Mars, PA / Mars Area) notched her second goal of the game with 8:06 left in the game.
In the first half, the Pioneers scored the first five goals and went on to hold a 11-2 lead at halftime.
Cimini and Reed led the Titans with two goals each. Junior
Emiley Kushner (Cecil, PA / Canon-McMillan) tallied one goal and one assist. Sophomore
Nina Rascona (Somerset, PA / Somerset Area) led the defense with four caused turnovers to go with four ground balls. First-year
Jade Hromanik (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) registered a game-high seven ground balls.
Hromanik, in her first career start at goalie, registered 10 saves.
The Titans are back in action Wednesday, March 2 as they host Heidelberg in a non-conference contest. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
