CRESSON, Pa. – Westminster senior
Jonny Stuckert (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) carded a school-record 66 on the final day of the two-day Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic, leading the Titans to first-place on Saturday.
Stuckert, earning his school-record fifth career win, finished with a two-day score of 142 (76-66) - tying the program's low 36-hole total (Ryan Pontius, Camp Lajeune Intercollegiate, 1996-97). Stuckert's 66 on Saturday surpassed the school's previous record by three strokes.
Westminster's two-day score of 589 (300-289) was the second-lowest score in program history (Saturday's performance of 289 tied for fourth-best for a team round). The Titans beat eight other teams and were nine strokes better than second place.
Senior
Michael Bell (Canonsburg, PA / Peters Township) carded a 143 (71-72), placing runner-up and the second-best low 36-hole total in program history. Junior
Calen Cummins (Allison Park, PA / Hampton) finished tied for fifth with a score of 150 (76-74), followed by classmate
Jacob Stuckert (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) who carded a 154 (77-77), good enough for ninth place. Rounding out the Titan scorers was junior
Sam Napper (Mt. Pleasant, PA / Mt. Pleasant) who finished in tenth place with a 157 (77-80).
Titan golfers competing as individuals were first-years
Logan Marnik (Carnegie, PA / Chartiers Valley), who recorded a 160 (82-78),
Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, OH / South Range) carded a 162 (78-84), and senior
John Popa (Salem, OH / South Range) finished with a 169 (86-83).
The Titans are back on the course on Monday, September 20 as they travel to Latrobe, Pa. to compete in the Saint Vincent Invitational.
