Baseball: Titans Split with Saint Vincent in Twinbill

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at home on Thursday. The Titans won game one, 10-2, and lost the nightcap, 6-2.

Westminster (12-18, 8-15 PAC) was in complete control of game one with an early 7-0 lead after only two innings of play. Graduate student Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley) got the scoring started with an RBI-double in the first inning. The Titans poured it on in the second inning with six more runs – both juniors Brandon Cooper (Oakdale, PA / West Allegheny) and Mike Grazier (Austintown, OH / Austintown-Fitch) had a two-run single. Saint Vincent (14-14, 13-10 PAC) scored its only runs in the third and fifth innings. The Titans scored one more in the sixth inning and twice in the seventh – highlighted by an RBI-triple by junior Ryan Jolin (Williamsport, PA / Williamsport Area). In total, the Titans had six extra-base hits, led by Jolin who had a double in addition to his triple. Sophomore Frankie Manios (Warren, OH / Howland) shined again on the mound with a complete-game win (his second of the season) and improved to a team-best 4-1 on the season. Manios gave up two runs off nine hits, while strike out and walking two.

Graduate student Tyler Barnot (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) put the Titans up in game two with two-straight at-bats with an RBI-single and Westminster led 2-0 going into the bottom of the third. That, however, would be the last time the Titans would score as the Bearcats rattled off six unanswered runs for the rest of the game. Titan first-year pitcher Kolton Banfi (Harrisville, PA / Franklin Area) had a quality start, throwing 6.0 innings and only giving up two runs off six hits. Junior Logan Minch (Grove City, PA / Grove City Area) got the loss, pitching one inning and allowing three runs (only one earned) off three hits.

The Titans are right back in action Friday, May 7 for their Senior Day and last home regular season contest. Westminster will host Chatham in a PAC doubleheader with game one starting at 1 p.m.
