Men’s Soccer: Iregui Breaks Career Points Record in Tilt with Bethany

BETHANY W.V. – The Westminster College men's soccer team lost in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup against Bethany College on the road on Saturday.

The game was highlighted by senior Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) breaking the Westminster career points record on a goal in the 53rd minute, marking his 100th career point as a Titan. Iregui broke the previous record of 98 career points held by Titan Hall of Famer Matt Roser (2000-03). Last season, Iregui also broke the career goals record at Westminster, a record he currently has with 42 career goals.

After both teams went into halftime scoreless, Bethany (1-1) scored just over two minutes into the second frame to take the first lead of the contest. Just under five minutes later, Iregui scored his record-breaking goal to knot the game up at one apiece. The score held at 1-1 until the waning minutes of the contests, when Bethany scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to bear Westminster (0-2).

Westminster narrowly outshot the Bison (15-14) and held a slim edge in corner kicks (3-1). Westminster put five of their 15 shots on net.

First-year goalkeeper Shadi Hassan (Brookline, MA / Waldorf) corralled five saves in the complete-game effort.

Westminster will return to the pitch on Saturday, March 27 when it takes on Thiel College in a PAC matchup at home at the UPMC Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
