BETHANY W.Va. – The Westminster College softball team swept the Bethany College Bison on the road Wednesday to remain undefeated on the season. The Titans won game one in comeback fashion by a score of 5-4 and claimed game two, 7-2.

In game one, Westminster (8-0) plated the first run of the contest when sophomore
Brooke Atkins (New Castle, PA / Laurel) scored off a sacrifice fly by classmate
Alexis Yates (Oakdale, PA / South Fayette) to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Bethany (3-7) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. The Titans knotted the game up in the fifth inning when senior
Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) delivered an RBI-single up the middle to tie the game at 2-2. The Titans uncharacteristically gave up two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth, before Lewis's home-run put the Titans in front, 5-4. Westminster held Bethany scoreless in the seventh inning to seal the victory.
In game two, the Titans and Bison each scored one run apiece in the opening frame, as Bedalota roped an RBI-triple. After both teams went scoreless for three consecutive innings. Westminster utilized a big, five-run fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Titans and Bison each plated one more run in the seventh inning.
Westminster had four players with multiple hits in game one, as Atkins, Yates, Bedalota and senior
Victoria Pezzuolo (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) each recorded a pair of base knocks. Atkins had a game-high two runs scored, while Lewis's three RBIs courtesy of her home run were also a game-high. Junior
Madison Brown (Libson, OH / East Liverpool) started in the circle, tossing 4.1 innings, scattered five hits, four runs (two earned) and struck out two. Junior
Krystyna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, PA / Fox Chapel) pitched a crucial 2.2 innings of relief, getting her first win of the season after giving up four hits and no runs to close out the game.
Bedalota led the way in game two, going 2-for-2 and tying a game-high with three RBIs. First-year
Mackenzie Latess (New Castle, PA / Laurel) also tied a game-high with three RBIs along with her two hits. Atkins also registered a pair of hits. First-year
Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) got the win in the circle, as she tossed a complete game, gave up eight hits, two runs and struck out four to improve her record to 4-0
Westminster will be back in action on Saturday, March 20 when it returns home to take on the Grove City College Wolverines in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
