Women’s Swimming and Diving: Titans Drop First Meet of Season at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College women's swimming and diving team lost against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Grove City College on Friday evening, marking its first loss of the 2021 season.
 
The Westminster women (4-1) fell to the reigning PAC Champion Wolverines (5-0) by a team score of 189-104.
 
The Titans won five total events on the day, led by junior Megan Routch (Imperial, PA / West Allegheny) and senior Zoe Cable (Brookville, PA / Brookville Area), who each claimed two individual wins on the evening.
 
Cable got the meet started with a victory in the 1 meter dive (217.40) and later in the meet won the 3 meter dive (251.75). Cable is unbeaten in diving this season, as she has won all eight events she has competed in. Cable currently has the 13th-best 1 meter (6 dive) score in the country and the 10th-best 3 meter (6 dive) score among Division III counterparts. Routch won both the 1000 freestyle (11:20.58, just 1.19 seconds off personal best time) and the 500 freestyle (5:28.32). Routch is unbeaten in both the 1,000 and 500 freestyle events this season.
 
Also earning a victory for the Titans was sophomore Baylee Horvath (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional), who won the 50 freestyle with a personal-best time of 24.75. Horvath also finished second in the 100 freestyle (55.67). Westminster also got second-place finishes out of Gayner Rossi (Trenton, MI / Trenton) in the 3 meter dive (204.55) and the 1 meter dive (210.95), while first-year Abigail Greene (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) placed second in the 1,000 freestyle (11:56.21) behind Routch. Junior Anna Grimenstein (Bridgeville, PA / Homeschooled) also finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:19.61). Westminster's 200 medley relay quartet of junior Carinna Lapson (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell), sophomore Shannon Geer (Greensburg, PA / Hempfield Area) and first-years Olivia Herman (Hamburg, NY / Hamburg) and Lauren Tanis (Reading, PA / Fleetwood Area) placed second with a time of 2:34.51.
 
The Westminster women's swimming and diving team will now re-group before Friday, March 1 when it returns to Grove City, Pennsylvania for the first day of the PAC Championship meet.
