Volleyball: Titans Blank Bethany

BETHANY, W. Va. – The Westminster volleyball team earned their third-straight shutout and remained undefeated in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) with a 3-0 win at Bethany Wednesday night.
 
Westminster (15-4, 7-0 PAC) was up 24-17 in the first set. Bethany (7-7, 4-3 PAC) fought back to make it 24-20, however, the Titans sealed the first set win, 25-20, following a kill by junior Kaylee Sciubba (Tarentum, PA / Deer Lakes). The Bison led 16-15 in set two, however, the Titans orchestrated a 5-0 run, capped off by another kill by Sciubba, and Westminster led 20-16 – its largest lead of the set to that point. The Titans held off Bethany for the rest of set two and won 25-20, following a kill by sophomore Saylee Grinnen (Wampum, PA / Lincoln). The Titans separated themselves with a 7-0 run to take a commanding 15-6 lead in the third and final set and won convincingly 25-13 to seal the shutout.
 
Sciubba registered a match-high .471 hitting percentage with eight kills, to go along with a match-best six blocks (tied a career-high). Senior Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) had a match-high 11 kills. Senior Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) corralled a match-high 19 digs, to go along with nine kills and two blocks. Senior Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a match-high 35 assists and tied with sophomore Lauren Lampus (Sarver, PA / Freeport Area) for a match-best three aces. Lampus also had 14 digs and seven kills, while sophomore Malia Duffy (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) had 13 digs. Grinnen tied a career-high with three blocks and had a career-high five kills.
 
The Titans will next head to Pittsburgh for Chatham's tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 9. Westminster will play Chatham at 11 a.m. and Waynesburg at 1 p.m.
