PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Westminster volleyball team remained undefeated in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) following a doubleheader sweep at Chatham's tri-match on Saturday.
Westminster (17-4, 9-0 PAC) recovered from losing the first set, 25-22, to Chatham (11-4, 6-2 PAC) by winning three-straight sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-22). The Cougars tried to force a fifth set, leading 17-13 in the fourth frame. The Titans, however, had other plans as they orchestrated a 7-2 run, capped off by a kill from senior
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo), and led 20-19. Westminster held off Chatham with determination for the rest of the set to seal the 3-1 match win. Adelman led the offense with a match-high 19 kills, setting a career-high for a four-set match. Junior
Kaylee Sciubba (Tarentum, PA / Deer Lakes) also had double-digit kills with a career-high 14. Senior
Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) added seven kills, to go along with 16 digs. Adelman added a match-best four blocks. Senior
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) led the Titans with 36 assists, to go along with 10 digs. Sophomore
Malia Duffy (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) was all over the floor with a team-high 19 digs, while classmate
Claire Tobin (Battlecreek, MI / Lakeview) registered 12. Sophomore
Macy Stoddard (Erie, PA / Harbor Creek) knocked down a team-high two aces (tied a career best).
The Titans took care of business in their second match versus Waynesburg (7-11, 3-7 PAC). Up 11-10 in the first set, Westminster pulled away with an 11-1 run en route to a 25-13 first set win. The Yellow Jackets jumped out early in the second match, however, Westminster fought back and it was tied late at 21. Sciubba led the Titan offensive charge to close out set two scoring three of the final four points with kills and Westminster won set two 25-21. The Titans started the third set strong and held off the Yellow Jackets for a 25-13 match-deciding set three win. Steward notched a match-high 10 kills, followed by Adelman and Sciubba with seven kills each. Sciubba added a match-high two blocks. Kelly dished out a match-best 21 assists and tied with classmate
Anna Lalama (New Castle, PA / New Castle) with a match-high three aces (career-high for Lalama). Steward led the defense with 12 digs, followed by Tobin with 10. Stoddard registered a career-high nine digs.
The Titans are back on the court Tuesday, Oct. 12 with a home match vs. Saint Vincent at 7 p.m.
