Men’s Basketball: 2019-20 Season Review

The Westminster men's basketball team, under eighth-year Head Coach Kevin Siroki '93, finished the season 16-12 overall and 10-6 in the PAC, the fourth-straight season with a winning record in conference play. The Titans advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournaments.

Westminster's season also included memorable victories over No. 22 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University on Nov. 19 and a victory over Grove City on Feb. 19 in the regular season, which snapped the Wolverines' 12-game winning streak. The Titans led the PAC in scoring, averaging, 76.0 points per game – the best scoring average since the 2006-07 campaign (86.9 ppg.)

Senior Dylan O'Hara (Girard, OH / Girard) was named the PAC Player of the Year, only the second Westminster player to win the award (Ryne Murray, 2008-09). O'Hara was also named All-PAC First Team, D3Hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region Second Team, National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Second Team, and All-ECAC Second Team. O'Hara was only the second player in program history to receive D3Hoops.com All-Region and NABC All-District recognition in the same season (Ryne Murray, 2008-2009). O'Hara was only one of two players from the PAC to earn All-Region honors this season.

O'Hara led the PAC in scoring, averaging 18.2 points per game. He also led the league in free throw percentage (82.4%). O'Hara ranked fourth in both total steals (49) and made three-point field goals (52) and was 10th in field goal percentage (47.0%) in the PAC. He posted a career-high 36 points in Westminster's win over Geneva College on Feb. 12, which was the highest single-game scoring effort by a Westminster player in seven years (Doug Smith – 40 points (2012)). In 23 games this season, O'Hara totaled 11 20-point games and a pair of 30-point scoring efforts. In 12 league games, O'Hara averaged 19.7 points per game. In addition, O'Hara was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Basketball First Team, the lone conference player to earn this honor.

Also earning All-PAC First team honors was junior forward Isaac Stamatiades (Elkridge, MD / Avalon). Stamatiades led the conference with a career-high 10.5 rebounds per game and finished fifth in the league with a career-best 14.9 points per contest. Stamatiades finished as the only player in the PAC averaging double figures in rebounding and was the only player to average a double-double, recording a PAC-best 14 on the season. Stamatiade tallied a career-high 35 points in the PAC Quarterfinals, which was tied for the second-most points by any PAC player this season. His 42 threes were third-best on the team.

Senior Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) earned an All-PAC Second Team honors. Payne averaged career-highs in points (10.4 per game – ranking 20th in the PAC) and rebounds (6.0 per game – ranking 11th in the conference). His 3.2 offensive rebounds per game led the team and ranked third in the PAC. Payne led the team and finished third in the conference with a 53.1% mark from the field.

Junior Daniel Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) also averaged in double-digits with a career-high 11.0 points per game, ranking 18th in the conference, to go along with 4.1 rebounds per contest. Ritter ranked 13th in the PAC in field goal percentage (45.5%) and made 49 three-pointers (second on the team). Senior Ricky Roth (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) was second in the league in assists, averaging 3.2 per contest, while classmate Preston Stitt (Boardman, OH / South Range) was 11th (2.3).
