BETHANY W.Va. - The Westminster College women's basketball team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Bethany College by a score of 74-50 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Westminster (19-5, 12-3 PAC) took its first lead of the game when senior
Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) made a layup at the 5:22 mark (sophomore
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) had the assist) putting the Titans in front 6-5. Westminster continued its run (12-0 total) and led 14-5 with three minutes left in the first quarter. The Titans took their first double-digit lead (17-7) with 1:42 left and led 19-11 at end of one. In the second, the Titans led 31-22 with 2:36 left in the half before they mounted a 6-2 run to close out the half and take a 37-24 lead in to the break. In the third period, Bethany (6-17, 5-9 PAC) outscore the Titans 12-9 to cut the Westminster lead to 46-36 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Titans exploded for 28 points in the period and comfortably cruised to the victory.
Westminster shot 45.8% (27-59) from the field, while Bethany had a 32.1% (17-53) field goal percentage. The Titans also shot 72.2% (13-18) from the charity stripe. Westminster bested the Bison on the glass, 42-30. Westminster forced 14 turnovers and scored 20 points off of those miscues. The Titans also recorded 11 offensive rebounds, 18 assists and six steals.
Bennett recorded a career-high 27 points on a 10-16 mark from the floor to go along with 10 rebounds. This marked Bennett's sixth double-double of the season and the seventh of her career. Bennett was also 7-10 from the free throw line. Junior
Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) was also in double figures with 12 points, all on three-pointers. Polczynski dropped 10 points and tied a game-high with two steals. Sophomore
Megan Meyer (New Galilee, PA / Mohawk) scored a career-high nine points off the bench and was a perfect 3-3 from the field.
Westminster will be back on the court on Wednesday, February 19 when it takes on Grove City College at home in a conference matchup for its last regular season game at 6 p.m.
