Volleyball: Titans Drop Two at Saint Vincent Tri-Match

LATROBE, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team had their 13-match winning streak snapped at Saint Vincent College's tri-match on Saturday.
 
The Titans lost to Saint Vincent College, 3-0, for their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss of the season, and were up 1-0 in their second match against Dickinson College, however, lost the next three.
 
Saint Vincent (11-15, 6-5 PAC) never trailed in the first set, however, Westminster (21-3, 10-1 PAC) tied it several times with the last one coming at 14 all. The Bearcats pulled away with an 11-1 run to close out the first set (25-15). The Titans were up 13-11 in the second set, before Saint Vincent went on a 6-0 run to lead 17-13, which proved too much for Westminster to overcome. The back-and-forth third set was only decided by two points. Saint Vincent had match-point (25-24), however a kill by senior Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) tied the set at 25. The Bearcats won the match as they scored two-straight points (27-25). DeGeorge tied a match-high with 13 kills. Sophomores Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) and Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) added eight and seven kills, respectively. Adelman also tied a match-best with three blocks. Sophomore Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out 16 assists. Senior Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) led the defense with a match-high 21 digs, followed by junior Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) (13) and Steward (11).
 
Against Dickinson (13-7), the Titans won the first set by the score of 25-20, before the Red Devils won the next three sets (25-19, 25-15, and 25-15). Adelman led the Titan offense with nine kills, followed by Steward (6) and first-year Isabelle Snyder (Centerville, PA / Maplewood) (5). Kelly once again had a team-high in assists with 14. Sophomore Maya Thornton (Clarion, PA / Clarion Area) tallied a match-high three aces. First-year Kaylee Sciubba (Tarentum, PA / Deer Lakes) earned three blocks to go along with four kills. Three Titans earned double-digit digs -  Toporcer (15), Steward (13), and Kelly (11).
 
Westminster will next host PAC foe Chatham University on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
