NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team swept Chatham University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest at home Tuesday evening.
The Titans won by the scores of 25-22, 26-24, and 25-22 for their 13th overall shutout and fifth against a conference opponent this season.
In the first set, Westminster (22-3, 11-1 PAC) led 12-7, before Chatham (6-16, 2-10 PAC) went on an 8-0 run to take a 15-12 lead. The Titans regained the lead on a 5-1 wave and remained in front for the rest of the set. The Cougars led 11-7 in the second set, however, the Titans responded with a 9-2 run to lead 16-13. Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic). The third set was back-and-forth until the very end (the Titans' largest lead was 15-10). Chatham got within one point (23-22) of Westminster's lead, before scoring consecutive points for the match victory – including a kill by senior
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) for match point.
Sophomore
Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) led the Titan offense with a match-high 13 kills. DeGeorge also had double-digit kills with 11, followed by sophomore
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) with eight. Adelman led the Titans with a .438 hitting percentage and earned a match-high four blocks. Sophomore
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) registered a match-high three aces and a team-high 18 assists. Junior
Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) added 15 assists. Senior
Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) earned a match-high 23 digs, followed by Kelly (12), Steward (12), and DeGeorge (11).
The Titans will next travel to PAC foe Grove City College on Thursday, Oct. 24 for a 7 p.m. match.
