NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team fell to non-conference opponent the University of Mount Union, 1-0, in its home opener Saturday afternoon.
Westminster fell to 3-1 on the year, while Mount Union improved to 1-2.
In the first half, Titan senior
Keely Birsic (North Ridgeville, OH / Elyria Catholic) chipped a shot from 20 yards out, hitting the cross bar. First-year Regan Olsen (Delaware, OH / Rutherford B. Hayes) gathered the deflection, but Mount Union goalkeeper Michelle Kissane came up with the save. At the 36:31 mark of the first half, Purple Raider midfielder Mallory Wahl connected with the back of the net from 20 yards out, giving Mount Union a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would hold off Westminster for the rest of the match.
Birsic finished with three shots and two shots on goal. Junior
Kayla Trozzi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) tallied four shots and one shot on goal. Titan first-year goalkeeper
Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) registered six saves in a complete-game effort.
Mount Union led in shots (14-8) and corner kicks (3-0).
Westminster is back in action Monday, September 10 at home against Carlow University. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
