Men’s Lacrosse: Titans Fall to Transylvania

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team fell to Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) opponent Transylvania University, 21-5, at home on Saturday afternoon.
 
Transylvania (5-5, 4-1 ORLC), the defending conference champion, scored first within the first minute of the first quarter (1-0). The Pioneers Kayd Aquino added another goal at the 11:25 mark to make the score 2-0. Westminster (4-3, 2-1 ORLC) got on the board when senior Raymond Shalvoy (Rochester, NY / East Rochester) registered a goal at the 8:17 mark in the first, cutting the Pioneer lead, 2-1. Transylvania pulled away after it went on a 6-0 run and ended the quarter leading 8-1. Shalvoy scored his second goal of the game at the 3:13 mark in the second quarter to make the score 9-2. Transylvania led, 10-2, at halftime. The Pioneers outscored the Titans 6-3 in the third quarter and 5-0 in the fourth.
 
Shalvoy finished with a team-high two goals and tied a team-high two points. Junior Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) and sophomores Adrian Culp (Gaithersburg, MD / Quince Orchard) and Chris Slater (Plum, PA / Central Catholic) each scored a goal. Freshman Shane Fisher (Palm Harbor, FL / East Lake) added a team-high two assists. Junior goalkeeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) finished with 23 saves in a complete game effort.
 
Transylvania led in ground balls, 34-27, and also led in face offs, 17-11. Hall gathered in a team-best five ground balls, followed by sophomore Steven Knight (Wyckoff, NJ / Ramapo) had four.
 
Westminster is back in action Saturday, April 7 on the road at conference opponent Hanover College. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
