VIENNA, Ohio – The Westminster College women's tennis team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Saint Vincent College, 5-1, at home on Saturday afternoon.
The match was held at the Squaw Creek Country Club in Vienna, Ohio. Westminster improved to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the PAC, while Saint Vincent fell to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
In singles play, junior
Alex Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica / Immaculate Conception) defeated her opponent, 6-2, 6-0, at the number two spot. Sophomore
McKenna Robinson (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) won a thrilling three set match, 6-3, 4-6 (10-8). Senior
Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley) took the first set, 6-1, in her number one singles match, before play stopped. Sophomore
Casey Barton (New York City, NY / Dominican Academy) was also leading, 3-0, in set one at number three singles before play was halted.
In doubles, Mason and Marzouca teamed up for a number one doubles victory, 8-3. Junior
Julia Serbati (Oil City, PA / Oil City Area) and first-year
Sara Small (Beaver, PA / Beaver Area) were victorious at number two doubles (8-2) while Barton and junior
Allyson Gitzen (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) won at number three doubles, 8-4.
Westminster is back in action Tuesday, October 16 at the PAC Championships. Westminster will host Bethany College at home starting at 4 p.m.
