NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's tennis team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Bethany College, 9-0, at home in the PAC Championship quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon.
In singles play, juniors
Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley),
Alex Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica / Immaculate Conception), and first-year
Sara Small (Beaver, PA / Beaver Area) earned straight-set, 6-0, 6-0, victories. Mason won at the number one, seed, Marzouca number two, and Small at number five. Sophomore
Julia Serbati (Oil City, PA / Oil City Area) won at number three singles, 6-1, 6-0, and classmate
McKenna Robinson (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) was also victorious, 6-1, 6-0, at number six singles. Rounding out the Titans was sophomore
Casey Barton (New York City, NY / Dominican Academy) who won at the number four spot, 2-6, 6-2, (10-4).
In doubles action, Mason and Marzouca won, 8-1, at the number one position. Serbati and Small earned an 8-3 victory at number two doubles, while Barton and junior
Allyson Gitzen (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) won, 8-3, at the number three spot.
Westminster advances to the PAC Championship semifinals and will face the lowest ranked middle seed left in the field. The PAC Championship semifinals and finals are being held at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center on the campus of Washington & Jefferson College. Start time for the semifinals is set for 4 p.m.
