Volleyball: W&J Holds Off Titan Comeback

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team lost, 3-2, at Washington & Jefferson College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Wednesday night.
 
The Titans were down 2-0 after losing set one, 26-24, and set two, 25-15. Westminster, however, won set three, 25-19, and set four, 25-17. In the final set, Westminster was up 9-5 after a service ace by junior Molly Parker (North Huntingdon, PA / Norwin). The Presidents answered with an 8-4 run to tie the set at 13. The Titans had match point at 14-13 after junior Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) earned a kill. W&J, however, went on a 3-0 run to win the set and the match (16-14).
 
Westminster dropped to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in the PAC, while Washington & Jefferson improved to 6-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
 
Titan senior Lexie Yoho (Pittsburgh, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) tied a season-high with a match-high 19 kills. Saxton and sophomore Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) each had 12 kills. Yoho also tied a match-best with six blocks, and joined juniors Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) and Molly Parker (North Huntingdon, PA / Norwin) for a game-best tie with two service aces. Parker tallied a match- and career-best 35 digs, followed by DeGeorge (27) and Saxton (16). Daniels dished out a team- and season-high 29 assists, while junior Ashley Barker (Warren, PA / Warren Area) and first-year Hannah Santom (Grove City, PA / Grove City) earned 12 and 11 assists, respectively. Sophomore Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) added four blocks.  
 
Westminster is back on the court when it competes in the two-day Allegheny Invitational, starting on Friday, Sept. 29. The Titans' first game is against Allegheny on Friday at 7 p.m.
