NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team lost both games in its home Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against Grove City College on Friday.
The Titans lost, 6-0, in game one and fell, 15-3, in game two,
In game one, Grove City scored two runs in the first, one in the second, two in the third, and one in the seventh. The Wolverines outhit the Titans 8-3. Titan sophomore
Brad Stein (Boynton Beach, FL / Palm Beach Central) registered a team-high two hits, while
Joseph Salmen (New Castle, PA / Union) had one. Titan senior
Sean Coyne (New Castle, PA / New Castle) (0-3) pitched 2.1 innings, while giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits. Sophomore
Cory Pullen (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) came in for relief for 4.2 innings, while giving up one run (none earned) on two hits. He struck out six and walked four.
In the second game, Grove City led 11-2 after two innings of play. The Wolverines scored four more in the fourth inning, while the Titans added another run in the fifth. Grove City outhit Westminster 17-6. Salmen and freshman
Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) each tallied a team-best two hits, while Coyne and sophomore
Travis Lauster (Slippery Rock, PA / Slippery Rock) each tallied a hit. Salmen, Lauster, and junior
Brandon Rossier (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) each earned an RBI. Titan sophomore
Cody Acon (Industry, PA / Western Beaver) (0-3) pitched 0.2 innings, while giving up two earned runs (seven total) on four hits.
The Titans dropped to 9-18 overall and 6-10 in the conference, while the Wolverines improved to 12-16 overall and 9-9 in PAC play.
Westminster will play a nine-inning game on Saturday, April 22 at Grove City with a 1 p.m. start time.
