Baseball: Grove City Edges Westminster in Extra Innings

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team lost, 6-5, in 10 innings at conference foe Grove City College on Saturday.
 
Westminster (9-19, 6-11 PAC) led 3-0 after four innings of play. In the fourth senior Ty Ferlin (Latrobe, PA / Ligonier Valley) connected on a two-run single, scoring sophomore Michael Douds (Erie, PA / Cathedral Prep) and junior Brandon Rossier (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny). Titan freshman Nick Tremper (Wellsboro, PA / Wellsboro) scored the third run with a ground out, bringing home freshman Connor Cox (Ridge, MD / Leonardtown). Grove City (14-16, 11-9 PAC) took a 4-3 lead with a four-run fifth inning. Ferlin tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth inning, the first long ball of his career. Grove City regained the lead with a run in the seventh inning, however Westminster tied it, 5-5, after freshman Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) singled home Ferlin. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Bobby Dulay was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring the game-winning run.
 
The Titans outhit the Wolverines, 13-9. Titan sophomore Travis Lauster (Slippery Rock, PA / Slippery Rock) tied a game-high with a team-best three hits. Senior Sean Coyne (New Castle, PA / New Castle) and Ferlin each had two hits. Johnson started on the mound and gave up three runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings. He struck out two and walked one. Senior Joseph Salmen (New Castle, PA / Union) (4-2) came in for relief and gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits. He struck out four and walked the same.
 
Westminster is back in action on Wednesday, April 26 with a home nine-inning game against PAC foe Geneva College at 4 p.m.
