Women’s Basketball: Titans Fall to Saint Vincent on Senior Day

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 60-46, against Saint Vincent College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
 
Titan first-year Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) scored a team-high 10 points. Senior Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) and junior Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) each tallied eight points. Junior Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) and first-year Maggie Monahan (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) scored seven and five points, respectively. Fromknecht and Cook each had a team-best six rebounds, while sophomore Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) had five. First-year Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) dished-out a team-high two assists, to go along with four points.
 
The Bearcats outshot the Titans 38.1% (24-63) to 26.4% (14-53) and had a 45-40 advantage in rebounds.
 
In the first quarter, Westminster (10-15, 5-13 PAC) never trailed and led 10-8 at the end of the one. Saint Vincent (16-9, 13-5 PAC) was down, 12-6, in the second quarter but went on a 7-0 run and took its first lead of the game, 13-12, with 5:34 remaining. Down 15-12, the Titans answered with a 6-0 run, capped off with a three-pointer by Quinn, and led 18-15 with 3:31 left in the second. The game was tied at 18 at halftime. The Bearcats went in front, 20-18, and did not give up the lead for the remainder of the quarter and the game. Saint Vincent took its first double-digit lead, 46-35, at the 8:36 mark in the fourth and maintained it for the remainder of the contest.
 
Westminster has clinched the eighth seed for the 2016-17 PAC Tournament and will play at fifth-seeded Grove City College on Monday, February 20 at 7 p.m.
