Women’s Basketball: Titans Win, 61-54, Over Wheaton in Daytona, FL

DAYTONA, Fla. – The Westminster College women's basketball team won 61-54 over Wheaton College (Mass.) in its first game of the Daytona Beach Shootout on Tuesday.
 
Wheaton (4-4) took its first lead, 8-7, with 3:26 remaining in the first quarter. Westminster (3-6) regained its lead and led 16-14 at the end of one. The Titans opened its lead in the second quarter after outscoring the Lyons 14-3 and led 30-17 at halftime. In the third quarter, Wheaton outscored Westminster 28-11, cutting the Titans' lead to 45-41. The Lyons went back in front, 51-50, after Rebecca Olivieri made a three-pointer with 4:19 remaining in the game. The Titans answered with an 11-3 run to seal the victory.
 
Sophomore Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) led the Titan offense with a season-high 15 points. Junior Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) also scored in double-digits with 13 points. Seniors Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) and Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) each scored nine points. K. Fromknecht tied a career-high with a game-high 12 rebounds, to go along with a game-best three blocks. Sophomore Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) registered nine rebounds and eight points. Senior Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) tied a game-high with four assists. Quinn tied with first-year Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) for a game-high two steals.
 
Westminster outshot Wheaton 39.6% (19-48) to 31.1% (19-61) and outrebounded the Lyons, 41-35.
 
The Titans will play their final game of the Daytona Beach Shootout on Wednesday, Dec. 20 against Spalding University (Ky.) at 3 p.m.
