DAYTONA, Fla. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 64-52, to Spalding University in its second game of the Daytona Beach Shootout on Wednesday.

Spalding (4-6) started the game with a 7-0 lead with 7:47 left in the first quarter. Westminster (3-7) took its first lead of the game after an 11-3 run, capped off with a layup by junior Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH), with 3:36 on the clock. The Titans led 19-16 after one. Westminster maintained its lead in the second quarter and led by as much as 13 points (37-24) after sophomore Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) made a three-pointer with 1:15 left. The Titans were up 37-27 at halftime. The Golden Eagles opened the second half with a 14-3 run to take a 41-40 lead with 6:20 to play in the third. Spalding outscored Westminster 9-2 for the remainder of the third quarter and led 50-42. The Titans got within seven points of Spalding's lead (56-49) after senior Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) made a pair of free throws with 4:47 left. Gage tied a career-high with a team-best five assists. Mathews and first-year Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) each pocketed a team-best two steals.
