NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team lost both of its games to Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at home on Friday.
The Titans were shut out in game one, 5-0, and lost 18-2 in the nightcap.
In game one, Thiel (16-6, 5-2 PAC) scored three runs in the second inning, one in the sixth, and one in the seventh. For the game, the Tomcats out-hit the Titans, 9-7. Junior Jared Baummer (Reynoldsville, PA / Dubois) led the Titans with two hits. Titan senior Ryan Dunn (Freeport, PA / Freeport) and junior Kellen Gursky (Greenville, PA / Reynolds) each recorded a double. Westminster junior Sean Coyne (New Castle, PA / New Castle) (1-4) pitched 6.1 innings, while giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits. He struck out two batters and walked the same.
In the nightcap, the Tomcats registered two runs in the first, six in the second, one in the third, six in the fourth, and three in the fifth. The Titans scored their two runs in the third inning; freshman Hunter Alexander (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) doubled home Baummer and sophomore Seth Magee (Wattsburg, PA / Seneca) scored Alexander with a ground out. Titan freshman Cody Acon (Industry, PA / Western Beaver) (0-4) threw 1.1 innings, while giving up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits. Acon had a strike out and a walk. Dunn earned one double and now has a team-high nine on the season.
Westminster (2-20, 0-10 PAC) will next play at Thiel on Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m.
