NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team swept Bethany College at home, which included its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win on the season, on Saturday.
Westminster (4-25, 2-15 PAC) won 2-1 in game one and 10-5 in the second game.
In game one, senior
Kyle Borton (Mineral Ridge, OH / Mineral Ridge) (2-6) earned the win in a one-run complete game. Borton allowed five hits, while striking out six batters and walking one. Westminster's two runs came in the first inning; junior
Ty Ferlin (Latrobe, PA / Ligonier Valley) singled home sophomore
Joseph Salmen (New Castle, PA / Union), followed by an RBI-single by sophomore
Brandon Rossier (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny), which scored senior
Ryan Dunn (Freeport, PA / Freeport). Bethany (7-22, 3-12 PAC) scored its lone run in the third. In the seventh inning, the Titan defense, led by impressive catches by Rossier and junior
Jared Baummer (Reynoldsville, PA / Dubois) and a Borton strikeout for the final out, sealed the win for Westminster. Titan freshman
Michael Douds (Erie, PA / Cathedral Prep) registered a team-high two hits.
In the second game, Westminster came back from a 5-0 deficit and tallied 10 unanswered runs. Junior
Sean Coyne (New Castle, PA / New Castle) led the Titan offense with a game-high five RBIs, including a double and a home run. Senior
Ryan Dunn (Freeport, PA / Freeport) added a two-run homer and double for a total of three RBIs on the day. Coyne and Dunn now have three and two home runs, respectively, on the season. Ferlin and junior
Kellen Gursky (Greenville, PA / Reynolds) each had an RBI. Junior
Nate McMaster (Stow, OH / Stow-Munroe Falls) (1-6) pitched 6.0 innings, while giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits. He struck out three and walked one.
Westminster will next play at Bethany on Sunday, April 24 for a nine-inning game, starting at 1 p.m.
