GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team was swept in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Grove City College on Saturday.
The Titans lost, 8-2, in game one, and 9-2 in the second game.
In game one, Grove City (15-5, 7-1 PAC) led 3-0 after scoring three runs in the second inning. The Wolverines extended their lead to 6-0 after three more runs in the fourth. Westminster (2-16, 0-6 PAC) got on the board in the top of the sixth inning with two runs; senior
Ryan Dunn (Freeport, PA / Freeport) scored on a passed ball, while sophomore
Brandon Rossier (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) singled home junior
Sean Coyne (New Castle, PA / New Castle). The Wolverines added insurance with a two-run home run by Grove City's Matt Waugaman in the sixth. Titan junior
Nate McMaster (Stow, OH / Stow-Munroe Falls) (0-4) pitched a complete game while giving up eight runs (six earned) on 15 hits, while striking out six batters and walking one.
The Wolverines had a 7-0 lead after four innings of play in game two. Freshman
Travis Lauster (Slippery Rock, PA / Slippery Rock) put a run up for the Titans in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring junior
Tyler Bommer (Renfrew, PA / Seneca Valley). Grove City added two more runs in the fifth and led 9-1. Rossier scored the second Westminster run in the sixth. Coyne (1-3) pitched 4.0 innings, while giving up only one earned run (seven total) on six hits. He struck out four and walked five.
Westminster will next host Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday, April 6 in a PAC doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 2 p.m.
