Men’s Lacrosse: Westminster’s Wike Nets Four Goals in Titans’ Loss to Thiel

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost, 20-7, to Thiel College at home in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) game Thursday night.
 
Titan freshman Max Wike (Highland, MD / Resrvoir) tied a season-high with a team-high four goals.
 
Wike scored the first point of the game when sophomore Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hershey) found him at the 10:55 mark in the first quarter. Thiel (8-2, 3-1 ORLC) responded with five-straight goals to take a 5-1 lead with 1:20 remaining in the quarter. Wike scored his second goal of the game with 18 seconds remaining, bringing the score to 5-2. Freshman Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) earned the assist.
 
In the second quarter, sophomore Zack Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) cut Thiel's lead to 5-3 with a goal at the 3:55 mark. The Tomcats added two more goals (2:04, 1:42) and led 7-3 at halftime.
 
Wike netted his third goal of the game with 14:48 remaining in the third, after freshman Alex Kennedy (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) found him with a pass. Kennedy then scored a goal of his own at the 13:16 mark, this time with the assist from Wike, making the score 7-5. The Tomcats followed with a six consecutive goals to go in front 13-5.
 
Zack Shorts (12:51) and Wike (8:27) added a score each in the fourth quarter. The Tomcats added seven more goals in the frame.
 
Titan freshman Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) (2-4) earned 21 saves in 54:09 minutes of work.
 
Westminster sophomore Dominic Schrecengost  (Avonmore, PA / Apollo-Ridge) earned a team-high seven groundballs, while Jared Saffer from Thiel had a game-high 14. Thiel's Edward Kargbo scored a game-high six goals.
 
Westminster (2-4, 1-4 ORLC) will next play at Hanover College, in Hanover Indiana, on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m.
